#DesignLife Edit: Pantone’s 2023 Color of the Year Viva Magenta

Pantone’s 2023 Color of the Year Viva Magenta, with its vivid pink tones, is definitely a color created to induce happiness.* And with anything that creates more happy, we want to sprinkle a little of its magic in our design palette. The key with such a strong vibrant color is a sprinkle and not a deluge, otherwise a space may feel overwhelmed.

Of course, over here we already follow that advice, as one of our signature accent colors is a vivid pop of magenta pink.

Logos aside, to incorporate this color into your home, start slowly with small accessories. We’ve curated a few ideas to inspire you to add a pop of Pantone to your #designlife.

Small scale options can include items like serving trays, ceramics, glassware, pillows and other decorative objects that don’t require a long term commitment. Oh how about a giant vintage Christmas ornament?

I also like to incorporate stacks of books in bold hues to add tone and texture in an unexpected way.  And there are quite a few colorful choices in various shades of Viva Magenta.

For something more permanent, finding paintings or photographs that use similar tones to Viva Magenta brings a level of intentional refinement to a space.

And of course, once you’ve sprinkled this happy color throughout your home, you may want to add more dramatic pieces to your decor. Rugs can ground a space with a wash of color while lighting can add texture with a unique shape and  sparkle of crystal, glass or resin. And of course, upholstered or painted furniture can bring more of Viva Magenta into a color scheme.

Don’t be intimidated, start small and you’re likely to find yourself adding more and more Viva Magenta, and more happy, to your home.  Who knows, you may even find yourself patiently awaiting the arrival of Andy Warhol’s Cactus Coat Stand.
